No one wants to see ants traveling up their walls in neat little rows or marching across their kitchen counter. If you see this, your first instinct may be to head to the local hardware store and purchase some DIY products, but that is not usually the best course of action. Not only are over-the-counter products on the market always effective against ants, but the improper use of them can be harmful to human health.

Instead, the better option is to call a Nampa ant control company. Not only will a pest control expert know how to use products safely and effectively, but they also have access to professional grade products that will help you get rid of an ant problem in your home much faster than doing it yourself.

How Can a Nampa Ant Control Company Help?

Today, there are two primary ways in which a Nampa ant control company will eliminate an ant population in and around your home. Through Armis, the first step, is by performing a thorough inspection inside and outside your home to determine the kind of ant you are dealing with and where the problem areas are.  The second step,  is a thorough treatment, both inside and outside the home, through a variety of treatment methods.  Different treatment methods are implemented according to the type of ant, ant behavior, and conditions of the areas where treatment needs to be performed.

Most ants come from the outside and they enter homes for the same reasons as other pests -in search of food, shelter, and water.  Most ants have established colonies around the homes’ landscape; however, they can also establish colonies anywhere inside the structure of your home, particularly the odorous house ant.  Since ants  need food to keep the colony alive, the colony’s workers exit the colony often in search for food.  It is when they have found the food source that a homeowner will see the ants trailing up and down walls, kitchen counters, etc.  Kitchens are a great source for ants to get their food.  The kitchen is an area where ants find food crumbs all over the place, especially in areas that are not often swept.  Extreme weather can also displace an ant colony and force it to establish indoors where they are protected from harsh temperatures and elements.  Moisture from leaky pipes and bathrooms can also attract ants and allow them to get established nearby.

Treatments for ants consists of a variety of sprays, baits, and even the use of exclusion methods.  Sprays consists of kill-on-contact and non- repellants.  Non-repellant sprays are the most effective at controlling ants. While a kill-on-contact product will kill ants immediately, it will more than likely not eradicate the colony at the core.  Kill-on-contact insecticides will also disrupt ants and their pheromones thus scattering the colony and worsening the problem, in the long run.  Non-repellants, on the other hand, will allow for ants to come in contact with the product while being undetected by them.  Ants, then, take the residuals of the non-repellant product deep into the colony and begin to spread the product with other ants.  In addition, most Nampa ant control experts will use baits.  Baits have been found to be highly effective at eliminating ant populations. These baits are set out in areas where ants are seen trailing or feeding.  The bait is usually placed inside cracks and crevices or on a small holder or inside a bait station.  Once an ant finds the bait, they will feed and take the bait back to the colony. This is in fact, what ants do with all of the food they find inside a home. The bait is then given to the queen and others in the colony and, eventually, it will kill the entire population.

What to Do After Nampa Ant Control Treatment

Unfortunately, while you may hope that you will never see another ant after service has been completed, that is likely not the case. Baits are the best way to eliminate an entire colony of ants, but they take time to work. You must wait until the worker ants have had a chance to take it back to the colony, which takes time. As such, it is important to remain patient and allow the bait to do its work. A Nampa ant control expert can advise on how long the bait should take to work before you start seeing results.

Although it is tempting to kill ants when you see them with DIY kill-on-contact products even after a professional has performed a treatment, , it is important you do not. The ants you see after a treatment are an integral part of the ant control process, as they are the only ones that can take the bait back to the colony.

In addition, it is important that you do not try not to use household cleaners, especially those that are very strong in odor, around the bait stations and treated areas. Since ants leave pheromones behind to communicate with other ants, disrupting the pheromone trails, could cause  the treatment to take longer to eliminate the population.  In many instances, it could also worsen the problem.

Lastly, if you notice that ants are in areas far away from a bait station, but there are few around the bait, speak to an ant control specialist about moving the bait. It may be more effective in another location and help you eliminate the ant colony sooner.
